The Uncanny X-Men (February 1981), #142 Direct

by Marvel

Part 2 of a story arc that changed me, and made me believe in comics in a new way. This book had been referenced in so many X-men books of the late eighties and nineties ("Editor's note: see X-men 142"), and when I got it in my hands as a very eager 11 year old collector, I thought it was the holy grail.

The beauty of the future history, the continuity of the then modern-day team to the dystopian team of freedom fighters- it really blew my mond. It was Chris Claremont at his best, and John Byrne draws Canadian super heroes better than any American ever could- his Wolverine is my Wolverine. And Sentinels are forever scary for me. And I was also forever hooked on X-men...
